Irish as Slaves, Indentured Servants, Convicts

Ireland has a long history as slaves starting with Cromwell when 10,000s were deported first to work on the Virgininian tobacco plantations, then Barbados, Jamaica, and in later centuries Van Diemens Land, New South Wales, Australia.

Dun Laoghaire and Cork harbours, then known as Kingstown and Queenstown were two of the main departure points for convict ships or British Hulks, decommissioned freighters.

Irish Women convicts in ships list departed Dun Laoghaire Harbour September, 1839
